How We Got To Do This

Many people have asked how we got to do this. We answered an email. We received an email from NETWORK with the invitation to participate. We remembered news reports of the previous Buses and listened to our hearts’ response. We researched the “Mend the Gap” topics and recognized our concerns. We asked lots of questions and found the answers a challenge and a possibility. We checked schedules, health, our own interest and saw no barriers.   We prayed and talked and listened and listened and discussed and realized we could not say “no, but thank you”   We called NETWORK with “yes, we want to do this.”

We are children of the 60’s. We grew up with the Vietnam War, The War on Poverty, the VISTA program, the Civil Rights riots and resolutions, the student uprisings, crosses burning on the lawn next door, Bob Dylan. How could we not say ‘yes’ to working to resolve injustices existing today. In our 40 years of ministry, we have been affected by the poor Black in Mobile, reservation Indians of the Southwest, HIV affected families, upper middle class suburbanites, homeless needing mental-health care, first-gen college students, single moms going to college and working full time, hospital boards, foster children, ... How could we not say ‘yes’ to working to improve the life of our friends.

We know why we became nuns; they were larger than an individual with intentions, influence, ability to act for positive social change. We joined CSA because we saw real opportunities to serve in ministry with the other members. We know our Mission Statement and believe it gives cause to our life.

Take another look at it. We said ‘yes, we want to do this!’

Please hold us in your prayers as you, too, go about your ministry.   www.networklobby.org
